The Baltikums Charity Foundation has donated modern equipment to the Strazdumuiža Residential Secondary School and Training Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, totalling 5000 euros. The school has received three Braille typewriters and a state of the art digital magnifier to simplify reading and writing activities for the pupils.

The school received three Perkins Classic Braille typewriters – allowing blind children to master Braille typing and read what they have typed right away. The Clearview C 24 HD desktop video magnifier is great for enlarging and sharpening visual material such as text and photos, allows brightness and contrast tuning and can connect to a computer. The video magnifier is an indispensable aid for pupils with poor eyesight by providing a comfortable view of almost any item.

“We are very grateful for the school equipment. It is really modern, easy to use, and will be an excellent replacement for our old devices, which have become obsolete,” comments Ligita Geida, Headmaster of the Strazdumuiža Residential Secondary School and Training Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

“The Strazdumuiža school is the only educational institution in Latvia where children and youths with severe visual impairments have access to a learning process adapted to their capabilities. Unfortunately, state funding is inadequate for providing the peculiar learning aids required, and we are proud to have contributed to the learning opportunities available at this school,” adds Baltikums Foundation member of the board Ingrīda Šmite.
